How To Make Bed Bugs Come Out Of Hiding?

Bed bugs can be a bit temperamental when it comes to their safety. In fact, these insects are adamant about avoiding detection even though they need to feed at least every few days. They will monitor their hosts to develop a schedule that allows them to feed discretely. If their hosts sleep during the day, the bed bugs will feed during the day and vice versa.

Bed bugs hitchhike to get from point A to point B. They hop into unsuspecting travelers’ luggage, overnight bags, and backpacks in search of a new host. Once the bed bug has infiltrated your home, thanks to you or another household member, its plan is to never leave unless it gets overcrowded, which it very well could in a few short months.

Remember, it only takes one adult pregnant female to create a full-blown infestation. Female bed bugs generate up to 200 eggs in their lifetime, this is about five eggs every day or other day.

Getting bed bugs out of their safe hiding place is never easy. In fact, you must trick them to come out. How is this possible? Find out by reading the tips provided in the content below.

  • Bed bugs exhibit nocturnal behavior. As previously mentioned, bed bugs tend to do the opposite of their hosts. If the host sleep during the night, the bed bug will feed at night. With this in mind, you can try to stay awake to catch the bed bug(s) in action. It will not be easy but is very possible if you are willing to fully commit to the idea.
  • Center beds in the room to make space for CO2 machines. Place one machine on the right side of the bed and the other on the left. These devices are designed to mimic the human body as it sleeps. When humans sleep, their body releases carbon dioxide and heat, which bed bugs are drawn to. This is how bed bugs know their hosts are asleep and it is safe to feed.
  • Install adhesive glue traps around the carbon dioxide machines. When the bed bugs emerge from their hiding places, they will get trapped in the adhesive. One glue trap can hold several dozens of bed bugs, making them very feasible.
  • Utilizing a floor steamer, you can drive bed bugs out of hiding. Direct the steam toward suspicious areas like baseboards, floorboards, and bed frames, all of which are common bed bug hiding places. It will take at least 15 minutes for the hot steam to permeate the materials securing the bed bugs.
  • Install heaters on each side of your bed. Direct the heat toward furniture, walls, and other areas where bed bugs may be hiding. Flip on the heaters and patiently wait for about 20 minutes. If no bed bug activity is detected, relocate the heaters to an area in close proximity to your bed. Repeat the process until bed bugs emerge out of hiding.
  • When signs of bed bugs appear on your bed linen, do not hesitate to take immediate action. We suggest stuffing the infested materials in a plastic garbage bag, seal the top, and transport them to your laundry room. Set the heat cycle on the maximum temperature setting and timer for 20 minutes. Carefully place the infested bed linen in the water. Once the washing cycle comes to an end, repeat the same steps for the dryer. Bed bugs must be exposed to temperatures over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for at least 15 minutes to fully eradicate.

Another Method Utilized By Exterminators To Drive Bed Bugs Out Of Hiding

Install bed bug detectors around your bed. These machines are capable of generating carbon dioxide like the sleeping human body and detect bed bugs from a short distance away. You can combine this method with adhesive bed bug traps to maximize your effort.

We suggest utilizing these machines while you are asleep. Doing so will keep you from being bit by bed bugs while you are asleep.
